Consultations
As the health watchdog in England, we need to make sure that we take into account any changes in healthcare policy and the way services are provided. We also need to be fully aware of the standards of care that members of the public expect and the issues that matter most to them.
To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to comment on our plans and activities, we consult regularly with patients and the public. We also ask for the views of professional groups and organisations that are involved in, or affected by, our work.
This section provides details of our current and past public consultations, and how you can send us your views. You can also view the Healthcare Commission’s responses to consultations carried out by other organisations.

Second joint consultation on the Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA)
This consultation closes at 5pm on Monday 20 October 2008
On 29 July 2008 the second stage of the joint Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) consultation began. CAA is to be introduced in April 2009 and will be an innovative way of drawing together information to show how well residents are being served by their local public services. It will give people a clear and impartial assessment of how successfuly local organisations are working together to improve the quality of life in their areas.
CAA brings together the work of seven inspectorates: the Audit Commission, the Commission for Social Care Inspection, the Healthcare Commission, HM Inspectorate of Constabulary, HM Inspector of Prisons, HM Inspectorate of Probation and Ofsted.
The inspectorates have listened to the feedback from the first joint consultation on CAA and this has formed the basis for the second consultation document which sets out the proposed approach.
